Supported formats and where the numbers come from
Each format follows the issuing authority's published specification. The important part most tools skip:authorities regulate the size of your head, not just the photo. A correctly sized photo with a head that is too small or too large gets rejected. The green guide lines in the tool visualize that requirement.

Why ID photos get rejected
- Head size out of range — the most common rejection. Selfies tend to make the head too large
- Shadows on the background — stand at least 1m away from the wall
- Hair covering the eyes or eyebrows — facial features must be clearly visible
- Glare on glasses or tinted lenses — some countries (including Japan) reject any frame crossing the eyes
- Photo older than 6 months — nearly every format requires a recent photo
- Smiling or open mouth — ICAO-compliant passports require a neutral expression
Tips for a good photo
- Stand away from the wall so your shadow doesn't fall on the background
- Face a window in daylight — soft, even light with natural skin tones
- Keep the camera at eye level — shooting from above or below distorts proportions and fails the spec
- Frame loosely — include your shoulders and crop here; you can't add space you didn't capture
- Have someone else take it — an outstretched arm distorts your face through the wide-angle lens

Can I use this for official applications?
The tool outputs the correct pixel dimensions for each format, but acceptance is up to the receiving authority. Please check that your photo meets each authority's requirements (front-facing, plain background, taken recently, etc.) before submitting.
How do I print it?
Download the “print sheet”, then print it at actual size on photo paper (at home or a kiosk). Cut along the guide lines.
